The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and ending the club's long wait for three decades, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach any other side in England. So that means should it be the Reds...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means I could make the decision later on, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to management, he confessed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, however, dining out with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. With many victories meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last term. They've been defeated a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the idea of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? This isn't just regarding the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad also. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is not easy. Unbearable.”
