Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The Russian, a former number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Currently training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.
It is his first title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from March of that year.
Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.
The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.
He saved four early break points in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, he clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
