Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for players looking for different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
