This new direction follows significant changes at the publicly-funded organization, including the departure of its previous CEO last month after both staff concerns and ministerial calls for strategic overhaul.

Growing Cybersecurity Concerns

The latest project comes amid growing concern about Britain's vulnerability to digital service failures and online threats.

A previous senior officer of the UK's air and space warfare centre will report back next month on how the government-funded institute can optimally help the scale of government AI ambitions in defense, national security and information gathering.

Operational Restructuring

The center's head, a previous Amazon UK leader, confirmed that 78 different research projects at the organization with 440 employees have been terminated, transferred out or finished because they aren't consistent with the revised strategy.

The center has faced organizational challenges since last year as employees objected against changes, culminating in a group of employees submitting a formal grievance to the proper supervisory commission.
