A Special Release Pikachu Promo Aims to Be Super Effective On Resellers
Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. The Pokémon Company alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop featuring special items. Fans will find offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork that are inspired by the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, however, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. The store is scheduled both the physical location to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.
Pokécology That Inspires the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited volume filled with stunning illustrations depicting creatures in their natural habitats. It's essentially is what an in-world scientist might publish once adventurers provide field notes, alternatively a naturalist's journal might have created if the Galapagos teemed with flying-types instead of birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of scientific inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess doctorate degrees in ecology and behavioral science.
What Makes This Promo Card Stand Out
It is common to issue special edition promos for major tournaments and brand collaborations. Many of these collector items often feature the iconic electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this new museum card however, is the unusually large dimensions. Although exact measurements have not been immediately shared, availability will certainly be strictly limited, with fans able to get only a single card with each transaction.
Limiting Reseller Interest
According to an official announcement, some of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the institution itself. However, a wider release will only be specific stores in the United Kingdom. Importantly, fans will not be able to purchase this promo through the official web shop. While speculator demand is inevitable, the setup suggests they will have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. For those feeling left out, consider the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to the Windy City in the coming months.
"All profits from purchases from the museum store and from its online store, including these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. That encompasses the research of hundreds of researchers who are scientific inquiry and finding answers to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
